Realtek GBE Ethernet (8168)

Today I was deploying a Dell Optiplex 3070 image that I had on my TOEM server and couldn't help but notice how painfully slow it was downloading.

Trying to pinpoint the speed issue, I attempted to image it again using an Anker USB ethernet adapter (ASIX). The difference in speed was astounding.

Using the onboard Realtek NIC would have taken an hour and 45 minutes or so.

Using the Anker USB ethernet adapter, it only took 30 minutes!

Is this a known issue? I assume it's some sort of Linux driver issue.

Are you using the latest kernel?

I'm still on v1.5.7.

My boot USB is using the 6.13.4x64-updated kernel version.

Is there anything newer than that available with the new v1.5.8 release?

After some searching on this, I've found that the general consensus is to avoid Realtek.

A lot of people have reported similar issues with this chipset. There's all kinds of suggestions involving different drivers, etc., but I have not seen one post specifically state, "this fixed my issue".

Luckily, the majority of my systems have Intel and this isn't that big of an issue. It works, but just slowly.

Sounds good, the only other option is to use the WIE for these models.
