My company bought new machines with SSD. This is my first time trying to image a SSD with Theopenem. My current setup is to use legacy boot with my current machines running on SATA drives. This method does not work with a SSD. I need to find a working option for both my older machines and these newer SSD drives. Can I create some kind of boot options for both hardware? I don't want to undo my working setup but, I need an alternative for these new machines. We use PXE boot an it works very well. Thanks.

I got around the PXE boot by using a USB drive, so that hurdle is cleared. Now when I try to put my image on the new machine with SSD drive if fails. It gives me this error. What do I need to do?

Change your HD from raid to ahci in the bios.

@theopenem_admin that worked however my image tells me it will take 6 hours to complete. Are there any other gotchas I need to know about? A 6 hour image is not going to work for me.

            Thanks

I stopped the SSD imaging and fired up one of my older machines to the SAME network connection I was using for the SSD drive image. I wanted to see if the connection speeds were just as slow. I attached the picture below.

@theopenem_admin I think this is what you are asking in regards to my boot iso....

That's probably too old. Typically when speeds are slow it's because the nic isn't fully supported. The newest kernel is 5.10.11. You can upgrade to Theopenem 1.3.3 and rebuild your iso with the 5.10.11 kernel selected.

@theopenem_admin I did as instructed. No change in the speed of the connection.

@dannyneunan Is your target machine fully updated BIOS / SSD firmware wise? I have seen issues with SSD's in the past speed with outdated firmware cause issues like that speed wise.

ill be imaging a few dozen SSD machines later next month, will see what happens.. 😛

I dont remember having issues when i cloned SSD machines on clone deploy... so it might be that firmware.

@mtywe I appreciate the help. Yes it is completely up to date. It is a brand new out of the box (with the latest updates) Dell Optiplex 3080. I double checked after reading your suggestion just to make sure. Thanks.

Can you boot to the client console and run

                          uname -a

                          and post the output

Yes, just wanted to verify the new kernel was definitely being loaded. I'm fairly certain I've imaged 3080's before without it issue, so I'm not sure what the issue is. Do you have a usb 3 nic you can try?

@theopenem_admin I do not have a usb 3 nic. Is there another setting in the bios I need to check? This is only a problem with this brand new Dell Optiplex 3080.

My only thoughts at the moment:

                                  • I'll build a new kernel to see if this fixes the issue. 5.11.10 is the latest from kernel.org. It may take me a day or two for this.
                                  • Try to find a usb nic to see if that works
                                  • Try using the WIE

@theopenem_admin I am downloading and running through the WIE install as an option. I will keep you updated. I did on a whim update the firmware on my workbench switch with no improvement. I plugged directly into my server room switch with no improvement. I've tried everything I can. Next....I will look for a live chicken. 🙂

@theopenem_admin I followed your instructions on building the WIE. I had not problems or errors during the install. I did however get completely confused by the last section of the instructions. Can you please tell me where I can find the ISO files mentioned in this step?

I believe it's in the build directory of the winpe maker you downloaded, or output can't remember what it's called.

@theopenem_admin I found the ISO and used Rufus to load it to a USB drive. I get through all the prompts until I hit this snag.

I don't see any of my images available to me. Ugh.

The images built with the LIE and WIE are not interchangeable. You need to pull that image using the WIE. Just deploy that image to a machine using the LIE, immediately shut it down after the image deploys before it boots to windows, then upload it from the WIE.
